Our Wedding

For the last two years, I have been telling our friends and family that I met my one. At the firehouse, I’d get asked all the time, “When are you gonna pop the question?” or “Are you married yet?” Many of you knew this was coming, but I’m sure hearing about it after the fact came as a great surprise to some. We offer our apologies for not involving y’all more in our celebration, and are assured that you will understand our desire to keep the ceremony limited to the immediate families.

Bird & I visited several jewelers together to find the perfect engagement ring and wedding bands, so my forthcoming proposal to her was not a surprise. When I asked her to marry me, she was wearing a weight vest because we had just climbed a long set of stairs to get to the highest hill in Austin. I took my straw hat off, found a place where nobody could see us, took a knee, took her sweaty hand in mine, and asked her to be my wife.

Only two weeks later, on May 22nd, the two of us were wed in a downtown Austin courthouse. The jury box was perfectly sized to seat our parents, siblings, niece, and nephews and afforded them a close-up view when we exchanged vows and rings. The ceremony was over quickly, and after some photos, we walked half a mile through downtown Austin to a famed cocktail lounge called the Roosevelt Room. Along the walk, dozens of cars were honking at us, several with ladies leaning out the open windows to tell Birdie how beautiful she looked.

After celebratory cocktails, our group migrated to a Cajun restaurant for dinner. We cut into the wedding cake together, popped champagne, took some photos during the golden hour, and savored the end to the festive day.
